What will Apple WWDC 2025 bring for developers?
The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 kicked off with a keynote at the beginning of June, and of course, as app professionals, we listened closely. Here we share the most exciting innovations that could excite both Apple users and app developers.
Apple has unveiled a brand new generation of its operating systems with iOS 26, iPadOS 26, visionOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26 and tvOS 26 - and for the first time, the versions are numbered by calendar year instead of consecutively.
The new "Liquid Glass" – A surface that inspires
One highlight is the redesign with "Liquid Glass": a glass-like, translucent surface that plays with fascinating light and movement effects. And there's more: Apple presents a new API set that makes it possible to adapt apps to this new design language – from buttons and toolbars to complete navigation structures. If you don't want to miss out on this opportunity, you should react quickly to the new possibilities.
The opportunity for app providers: Visual Intelligence
Apple is expanding its Apple Intelligence with Visual Intelligence, which allows users to start searches based on screenshots and perform actions directly. This opens up exciting opportunities for app providers: With App Intents, companies can integrate their app directly into Visual Intelligence's suggested actions – for example: If users take a screenshot of a politician or sporting event, they could be suggested to read suitable articles in a news app. A direct way to increase the visibility of the app!
AI in your pocket – iOS 26 makes it possible
With the Foundation Models API in iOS 26, Apple is bringing AI directly to the device – without any server connection. This means for companies: Offline AI for apps that is privacy-friendly and free of charge. This allows AI features and prototypes to be tested at lightning speed – without the need for complex cloud solutions or interfaces. What's more, the AI model can directly control functions within the app, such as creating appointments, sending messages or triggering customised workflows.
visionOS – Experience space in a new way
visionOS 26 brings exciting new features for spatial browsing. Widgets can now be placed in the room – for example, a clock on the desk or the photo gallery on the wall, which reappears there the next time the headset is put on. Personas have also been significantly improved: 3D objects and spatial videos can be experienced together with several Vision Pros. The browser becomes an immersive experience in which websites and interactive 3D models appear completely new.
iPadOS – Multitasking rethought
With iPadOS 26, there are finally movable windows and a Mac-like menu bar – and yes, the windows can now also be adjusted in size. What's more, apps can now perform complex tasks in the background. Multitasking is therefore not only more intuitive, but the iPad is becoming an even more powerful work tool.
What does this mean for app designers?
Are you ready to adapt the apps to the new operating systems and their features? We support companies to find the right measures and prepare them optimally for the coming changes – for 2026 and beyond.
